Welcome back to our series involving online interviews of the main Partners from the NEUREKA Consortium where they get the chance to tell us a little bit about their expertise as well as what they contribute towards this multinational multi-institutional project. This week we are interviewing Prof. Professor Gilham of LAAS/CNRS
NEUREKA Consortium convened in the city of Heraklion, Crete, for a productive two-day meeting on May 27th and 28th, 2024. There were collaborative discussions, presentations, and brainstorming sessions, emphasizing the NEUREKA project’s significance and scientific outcomes, leading to the final review meeting.
Beyond all the WP presentations, a highlight of the meeting was a visit to the Poirazi Lab in IMBB, FORTH. Here, the consortium members had the chance of discussing with the lab experimentalists.
Going beyond the realm of science, the consortium enjoyed a fascinating guided tour of Knossos, the historic Minoan palace complex.
The successful meeting in Crete has boosted our teamwork and our confidence for future breakthroughs.
NEUREKA consortium partners LAAS-CNRS recently published a new article in Small Journal about their work in NEUREKA.
Guilhem Larrieu and co-workers demonstrate the development of an in vitro bio platform for real-time monitoring of neuronal electrical activity and localized pH changes, with a proof-of-concept study showing the effect of Amyloid beta oligomers on neuronal firing without altering pH values.
The NEUREKA Project was present at Bootcamp Match & Develop a startup Heraklion 5.0 | Innovation Crete 5.0, where NEUREKA partner Dr. George Kastellakis presented the AlzModel technology and its closed-loop connection to HD-MEAs.
What are the differences and similarities between biological and artificial neural networks? Who would be the winner in a “biological versus artificial intelligence” battle? Dr. Panayiota Poirazi will guide us in a fascinating exploration of the wonderful world of the brain – both biological and artificial – through her talk entitled “Decoding the mysteries of biological and artificial intelligence”.

We are excited and proud to announce that Ioanna Pandi a very talented Ph.D. candidate in Poirazi Lab, recently received one of the 11 travel grants for international students for The Brain Conference: Structuring Knowledge for Flexible Behaviour organized by FENS in Rungsted Kyst, Denmark. She was also selected to give a talk and present a poster on her work during the conference. In addition, she received a travel grant to attend and present her work with a poster at the 30th Meeting of the Hellenic Society for Neuroscience at the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” in Athens.
